What I'd like to see is a rational, step by step argument of why this is even a problem. It very well may be, but no one cares to explain why. They just assume agreement.

Naturally, but that doesn't much help in understanding the problem. Is our culture "right," or "wrong"? Just because it's the way that things have "always been" doesn't mean that we should continue that trend. The past should preserved, but not always perpetuated.
