"A little fear is a healthy thing."

1/1/2007 15:14: "Oh, man. I'm hardly ever this extroverted, offline and online. It's been years since I was this open and friendly. Groovin'!"

Yup. It's more of the same. On a lighter note, what would you take with you on an adventure? Think as if you were going camping for a long time, and going far away.

1) Multi-tool pocket knife.
2) Coil of rope.
3) Beef jerky and other non-perishable supplies to supplement gathered/hunted food.
4) Varying amounts and types of clothing, bedding, etc. depending on the CLIMATE of the target area.
5) A camera with a ginormous memory card and lots of fresh alkaline batteries.
6) A plushie.
7) A portable water filtration system. No telling WHAT kind of microorganisms are in that tasty-looking river.
8) A book on wilderness survival, in case there's a nuance I forgot and need to research.
9) A +5, vorpal, dancing greataxe in case I need to go hunting.
...What? XD

10) A JOURNAL. Sure, the camera would be good for record-keeping, but there might be events I really want to remember that go by too quickly for screenshots. Snap. I said SNAPshots. Really I did!

Ooh! That's a good one. A journal, of course.

A tent, five potions, and an antidote. Oh, and some weapons and armor and magic and...wait, how much gil would I start out with?

Don't forget the Phoenix Down!

Oh yeah, and a phoenix down or two.

Sorry, no gil, more like silver points and gold points. Hold on, let me look at the starting gold table. (...) Well, I couldn't find it, but the expected gain to the second level is 900 GP, and that's a lot. Still, you're thinking on the right track: medical supplies are right up there. A a stocked first-aid kit or two can be your bread and butter on a long trail. Weapons and other combat-gear are a matter of course, but I'm thinking more generally, stuff you might not think about until, oh, man, if only I had thought to bring that! Our goal is to be a hoopy frood who knows where their is at in a classical adventure setting.

Don't forget about different uses of other things, like using tent poles as tools and/or weapons. Anyways, hmm...if I were to start a character in D&D, I would want the items to start out to be...some decent armor, like leather instead of cloth, a good weapon or two (plus a small knife, like a kunai, as a tool), a decent length of rope, food and medical supplies (it could be a long journey just to the next town!), tent, and a map. How is that?

A map! That's something most people kind of gloss over, where-as in real life, they certainly wouldn't. Navigation is tricky business, especially in the wilds. Another thing that's useful but preactically missing in D&D: the compass.

A map, a compass, now all we need is the dungeon item and the big key! :D

masstreble: On the proper navigational methods of Hyrule.

Link has a map and a compass of some sort in the games. Either that or an uncanny sense of direction. Otherwise, what are we doing when we look at those maps in-game? Link's a prepared guy, in fact, he's a one-man adventuring wrecking ball. I wonder what he would be in D&D? A prestige class, I think. Only one person can be the Hero of [thing].

Maybe an epic Ranger. Yeah, he's definitely a ranger...Heh. "Power druids." Five old wise men in identical outfits, each a different color. I'd like to see them do dorky fake karate.

...Well, hell, you just beat hypothetical D&D. Everything's in your possession, including the concepts of adventure and even, in an unnacceptable turn of logic, this very post. In hypothetical D&D 2, we're going to put in some rules to stop that.

Somewhere in the world, there's a grenade with it's pin out, that suddenly vanishes.

Okay. You have everything. How do you organize it so you can get what you need in a timely manner? i.e. before the death of the universe, or your death, whichever comes first.

You have just discovered, among everything else in the universe, a lit cigarette and short-fused bomb in your bag of holding. The cigarette has just lit the quarter-inch fuse of the explosive. Your death will occur in T-minus one second. Have a nice day.
