Are all short indy-games about death? Or is it just the ones I've been seeing lately?

Well, we were talking about Fathom and Don't Look Back. mmsword's regular feature of "look at these indy games guys" had those two and Everse.

Ahh, I don't have mmsword watched on LJ. He looks neat though so I'll do that.

I played Fathom but near as I can figure, you fall into the water, you make a tree grow, you open a rock door, and you explode into light. Do you know if there's anything else to that game?

You don't... Well... Basically, you get into a fight you can't win, and you fall for a long time, and then you fatally hit the water. While the shock and suffocation slowly kill you, you experience a hallucination in which you explore mysterious depths. You're joined by flittering, colorful, seemingly friendly fish, which indicates a subconscious need to... well, not die alone. You don't explode into light, you ascend into it. A lot of people who very nearly die report experiencing travelling towards the light, and feeling at peace. It's very likely a neurological event associated with approaching brain-death.

Oh! So that's what it is. I wouldn't have guessed that. I guess I take things too literally? ^.^;;

That's why it ends with the character floating downwards, the helmet and gun having floated away a good few meters when we see him. See, I was assuming that the character was a robot of some sort, which made the whole thing... actually even more sad.
