After a little harmless surfing...

It re-occured to me just how hate-filled the 'net is. What the heck is wrong with us?

Mon, Jan. 24th, 2005 09:04 am (UTC)

I'm never sure... living creatures in such a large area... large groups... it's just the same as real life. It's two sides of the same coin, though... there's a lot of love and compassion.

Rationality, irrationality...

We have to learn how to deal with the bad things, and always remember the good in everything.

Yeah, that's true.

Say, um, how are you responding to this from tomorrow afternoon?

ahh... ^_^() I believe that came up while I was flying east... I updated in each terminal, but it eventually told me that I was posting out of order, so I pushed the time ahead... and it's all screwed up now.

I'll fix it, somehow...

It's all the pornography; it's made us lazy and ungrateful. Why, in my day, we had to leave our computer on all day and all night for a week to download a few megs of porn. *shakes the 56k-stick*

Or, really, it's just because people are morons. Yeah, that sounds about right.

guido_jacobs: Old man's rant

a few MEGS? In your day? what are you, three? Back in my day, we had to draw our own in the sand, with sticks we broke off trees with our bare hands! *shakes his elder stick*

makzu: Re: Old man's rant

Sticks? STICKS!? Let me tell you, Sonny, we didn't have yer fancy sticks or yer sand to make porn with! We had to carve pictures into things with our teeth! Rocks, trees, wild animals, each other.. anything we could get our hands on!

And let me tell YOU, Sonny, we liked it that way!

masstreble: Old man's rant part four:

Teeeeeth? Teeeeeeeeth? I remember what it was like when we used to use our pseudopods to form crude representations of copulation out of little hunks of organic matter! Let me tell you: you take vertebrae for granted, sporeling!

guido_jacobs: Re: Old man's rant part four:

pseudopods? PSEUDOPODS!?! Back in my day, all we were were microorganisms! ...which were asexual...so...no porn.

like....furmurder & come_2_mama? < two livejournal accounts of 3Vil!

People are just asinine, and become bullies when they hide behind the anonymity(sp?) of the net whence online. That's my 2 cents...and I expect the other 98 back someday ;3

masstreble: Gossip.

It looks like the second is a mindless serial adder, so don't even worry about that. You can ban them if their name on your userinfo page bothers you. Look it up in the LJ FAQ section, j0?

As for the first, I don't know much about. It's been suspended, so I can only assume they've been up to no good.

Back to the original subject, I wasn't meaning anybody in paticular, just in general.

well, those to I've just known about recently, only reason I pointed them out *shrugsu*.

Your icon...looks like the dad from Rugrats for some reason...Oo;

The icon is Dr. Aoi, from Pastel Defender Heliotrope, a fantastic online comic currently going through an update shortage (it is currently updating, just not as often as it used to).

ahh...well, heh ^^;. Just was sayin.

I think it has something to do with the fact that nobody can come over and beat their asses for being assholes :P

Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad theory explains it rather well.

The internet makes it very very easy to get your subject out. You can very easily put out a hate-filled message on a whim - it only takes a few minutes to get an account at an average forum, for instance.

Out in the "real world," if you want to put your ideas out in public, it's much harder. There's just so much to add to your inhibitions.

But on the Internet, you can do anything you want to without coming into direct contact with anyone. That makes it easier to be a dick, I think.

masstreble: Rolling around in my subconcious.

So, in other words...

It is an idea I always took as tongue-in-cheek, but now I should give it some serious consideration. It is, however, depressing that the threat of pain and bodily harm is the only control on behaviour. I guess I still have some niave-ness rolling around in my subconcious. :P

makzu: Re: Rolling around in my subconcious.

I don't think it's really fear of ass-whoopin'. I actually think it has more to do with the fact that if there's nobody around to respond immediately, it's easier to say.

Honestly, I'm affected by that too. It's much easier for me to send an e-mail when I'm steamed about something at school or something than bring it up in person.

It's all about the inhibitions, though, and because everyone on the Internet is (or at least feels) totally anonymous, the inhibitions are sorely lacking.

masstreble: Somehow, Penny Arcade ends up in this.

I think Penny Arcade has a strip that perfectly illustrates this. "Completely Normal Person + Illusion of Anonymity = TOTAL JACKASS." or something like that.

I believe this is what you're looking for.
