"Man bites dog", it just occured to me, isn't really news at all. Both inhabit the same environment, and have the obvious capacity to bite. It's only a matter of time and chance until a man bites a dog.

Now, "Book bites robot" -- that's news.

Planescape: Torment, actually. Morte is a mimir (talking encyclopedia) and a flying, disembodied skull. The Nameless One is the immortal hero who always seems to end up in the Mortuary of Sigil whenever he dies.
