Pardon my non-cynicism.

If you read the definitions of these things, who would ever want to be described by them? Apparently, most Internet people (which just seems like an excuse to be a jerk to me).

Disclaimer: this isn't pointed at anybody in paticular. If you think this is, you're WRONG and you lose your next turn. :<

masstreble: Precisely.

"Because I think it makes me look or sound cool" is certainly not a good reason. Unfortunately, a random sampling of trolls and other jerks have a difference of opinion...

raiblu: I dunno...

The third definition of cynical, pessimism from experience and world-view, doesn't sound too harsh, and I think it's the connotation that most people have taken up...

but I've never even heard someone call themselves misanthropic, and the definitions, in general, are both kind of depressing.

Let's have more peace and love in the world.

I certianally think of myself as falling under the first def. of cynisism, as I do believe that greed is the ultimate motivator. Indeed, this isn't a value statement ("greed is bad"), a statement about my personality ("I am bitter"), or anything else like that. Rather, it is a statement about my beliefs and observations. And screw speeling.
